The Sheltered Millennial

The culture everyone remembers—experienced for the first time at 35.

The Sheltered Millennial is a series of broadcast-quality animated video essays about 1990s and 2000s pop culture, encountered for the first time by an adult who grew up in a devout home mostly without it.

Secular media didn’t come into our house. No Pokémon. No Harry Potter. No Dragon Ball Z. No rap. No rock. Many of the touchstones that defined a generation passed by without me — what I did get came secondhand, at school or snuck in around the edges. My version of millennial culture is patchy, not missing.

None of this is a complaint. My mother believed she was protecting us, and she wasn’t casual about it — she was committed. You can’t fake the day she threw my Pokémon cards out of the car window at 65 miles an hour. She wasn’t being cruel; she was being thorough.

Now, in my mid-30s, I’m going back and meeting it properly — and documenting the journey. Almost nobody gets to encounter this culture with genuinely fresh eyes, and that vantage point is the whole show: real first impressions and honest analysis, decades late, from someone building a connection to it now rather than remembering one.

The result is funny, personal, and impossible to imitate.

What I’ve Built

Focus
Professional-grade AI-assisted media production
  • Custom animated character: Hand-drawn avatar with expressive poses, props, and hard cuts
  • Broadcast-quality intro: 60-second animated sequence, 17 shots, AI voice, original music
  • Distinctive visual style: Looks produced, not generated
  • Repeatable pipeline: Format scales to weekly or bi-weekly episodes

The Business

Model
Passion project with YouTube monetization
Priority
A creative practice first, a business second.
  • YouTube AdSense: Primary revenue from a growing, engaged audience
  • Potential course: Teaching the AI-assisted animation and production workflow I’ve developed
  • Merchandise: If the audience grows, character-based products become viable
  • Speaking and consulting: The unique production approach may attract interest from other creators

The Sheltered Millennial exists because the story is worth telling. If it finds an audience, the business follows naturally.
